How to Set Up Label Printing
HealthTrack prints patient labels using a DYMO LabelWriter. Setting up label printing involves three steps: installing the printer in Windows, configuring its printing preferences, and selecting it in HealthTrack.
A DYMO LabelWriter must be connected to your network or workstation before you begin. Contact your IT support provider if the printer has not been physically installed.
Install the DYMO printer in Windows
To install the DYMO printer in Windows, follow the steps outlined in Microsoft's Add or install a printer in Windows support page.
Do not configure the DYMO printer as your Windows Default printer.
Configure the printing preferences
After installing the printer, set the correct orientation and paper size for patient labels.
- Open the Printers and Faxes screen from Start Menu > Settings > Printers and scanners.
- Right-click the DYMO LabelWriter and select Printing Preferences.
- Set the Orientation to Landscape.
- Click Advanced.
- Change the Paper Size to correspond with the Label Printer you are using.
- You may need to add custom print dimensions - contact your IT Provider for assistance. HealthTrack support may be able to assist if necessary.
- Click OK to close Advanced Options, then click OK to close Printing Preferences.
Configure label printing in HealthTrack
Link HealthTrack to the DYMO printer so labels print with the correct layout.
- Open HealthTrack and select any patient (or proceed without selecting one if you are configuring a new installation).
- Open the Demographic tab, go to the Actions section, and click Print.
- Select the relevant print layout and click Preview.
- Set the Printer Type to Label Writer.
- Click Set Printer.
- Confirm the printer is set to DYMO LabelWriter and click Properties.
- Set the Orientation to Landscape and the Paper Size to the relevant size (Same as the steps in Configure the printing preferences above). Click OK to close.
- Click OK on the Print screen.
- Click Save Preferences on the Select Print Options screen to save these settings.
- Click Go to print a test label and verify the output.
After saving preferences, any user on this computer can print labels without reconfiguring the printer each time.
If a label or report layout is missing
Print layouts (the label and report forms themselves) are managed by HealthTrack. There is no screen in the practice for adding or editing them. If a label or report layout is missing - for example, printing pathology request labels shows a message to contact support - contact HealthTrack support and we will set up the layout for you.
